June 24 2008 - GLSS Race #3 Camden - News Update - Merlin Results
Sat. June 21 and Sun. June 22, the Great Lakes Sprint Series held it's 3rd race of the season running a new track configuration (1B) at the G&J Raceway in Camden, Ohio. Merlin drivers Emerson Reed, Dalton Prime, and Shinya Michimi were all on hand for the event. Saturday saw the #88 of Emerson Reed put in a solid qualifying run placing 5th in a large field of Yamaha Jr. Sportsman drivers. Reed went on to finish 11th in both the Prefinal and Final.
The Junior classes on Saturday saw a pair of Merlin drivers put in solid qualifying runs as well, with the #48 of Shinya Michimi qualifying 2nd in the Yamaha Jr. Supercan Hvy class and 3rd in Yamaha Jr. SC Lite and the #99 of Dalton Prime qualifying 5th in both classes. Both Yamaha Junior SC classes saw exciting races with the #48 of Shinya Michimi, the #79 of Dakota Pesak and the #33 of Cody Robinson all running close together. Merlin driver Michimi managed to get around Pesak in the Yamaha Jr. SC Lite Prefinal to finish 2nd and set the fastest lap of the race. Michimi also managed to finish 2nd in the Yamaha Jr. SC Heavy Prefinal. The Yamaha Jr. SC Lite Final saw an exciting battle with Michimi in 3rd after the start, managing to get back into 2nd and set his site on the 1st place of Robinson when the rain started to fall. Unfortunately, the race was red flagged and having completed the halfway point, the race was called complete. Since under rain rules the race reverts back to the lap completed prior to the red flag, Michimi had to settle for 3rd Place. Prime came across the line for a solid 5th place finish. The Yamaha Jr. SC Heavy Final saw racing in wet conditions. Michimi managed to hold onto a 3rd place finish with Prime also holding on to a 5th place finish.
Sunday saw equally exciting races in the Junior classes with Robinson and Michimi splitting the classes. The #48 of Michimi took the Pole for the HPV Jr. Lite class and qualifyied 2nd in the HPV Jr. Heavy Class. Michimi held on to the 1st spot in the HPV Jr. Lite class and managed to set the fastest lap in the Prefinal. While Michimi was not able to get around Robinson in the HPV Jr. Heavy Prefinal, he did manage to challenge Robinson and set the fastest lap. The HPV Jr. Lite Final saw Michimi finishing 1st to take the win for the day. While the HPV Jr. Heavy final saw an exciting battle for first with Robinson and Michimi trading spots for several laps. In the end, Robinson was able to hold Michimi off in the final lap to take the win, with Michimi finishing in a close 2nd and setting the fastest lap in the final.
The completion of race # 3 of the Great Lakes Sprint Series finds Michimi in the lead in the HPV Jr. Lite points with Robinson close behind and Robinson leading in the HPV Jr. Heavy points with Michimi on his heels. It is shaping up to be a great battle for the Championships in the Great Lakes Sprint Series.
